My Odin 2 Portal Max has been hands down my favorite handheld for a long time, which is why I’m paying close attention to this one. AYN has confirmed the Odin 3 Portal, the successor to its 7-inch Odin 2 Portal Android handheld. The announcement is a single teaser image, posted on [AYN’s Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/ayn.technologies/p/DebkaflRJ15/?ref=averagetechnerds.com) and its Discord server on October 13, that shows the device and the line “Flagship power. Precision control. Your world, your way.” There is no spec sheet, price or release date yet. The headlines that followed fill those gaps with expectations, so this piece separates what AYN has shown from what is being assumed.

Bottom line up front

## So what does this mean for the *Average TechNerd*?

The Odin 3 Portal is real and “coming soon”, according to AYN, and the render shows a body that closely matches the Odin 2 Portal. AYN has since confirmed the Odin 3’s Dragonwing Q8 chip and a 9,000mAh battery, but not the screen size, price or date. The expectation of a larger screen comes from how AYN built the Odin 2 Portal, which kept the Odin 2’s chip and added a bigger OLED display.

For the Average TechNerd, there is nothing to order and nothing to compare on paper yet. Odin 2 Portal owners can wait for the spec sheet before deciding anything, and anyone shopping now should know that only the base Odin 2 Portal is in stock on AYN’s store. Price is the open question: the Odin 3 now starts at $369 on AYN’s store, and AYN has not said where a larger-screen model would sit.

## UPDATE What’s new since publishing

October 22: pre-orders are open

Pre-orders opened on AYN’s [store](https://www.ayntec.com/products/odin3-portal?ref=averagetechnerds.com) on October 22 at 9:30 PM Eastern, with all four tiers at their launch prices, from $399 for the Base to $669 for the 1TB Max. AYN still says shipping starts in early November. I pre-ordered the 1TB Max in Cold Grey.

October 22: a 1TB Max at $669

AYN’s [store](https://www.ayntec.com/products/odin3-portal?ref=averagetechnerds.com) now lists a fourth tier: a Max with 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage, at $669 during the launch window and $699 after, in Black, White or Cold Grey. The listings now name the memory and storage for every tier, which confirms the 12GB/128GB Base, 12GB/256GB Pro and 16GB/512GB Max. By AYN’s listing, nothing else changes on the 1TB model: same 7-inch 120 Hz OLED, chip and 9,000mAh battery. Pre-orders open October 22 at 9:30 PM Eastern.

October 21: $399 to $549, 7-inch OLED confirmed, pre-orders October 22

AYN’s [store](https://www.ayntec.com/products/odin3-portal?ref=averagetechnerds.com) now lists the Odin 3 Portal at $399 for the Base, $479 for the Pro and $549 for the Max at launch, up from $419, $499 and $579 afterwards. Outlets report the tiers as 12GB/128GB, 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB. The screen is confirmed as a 7-inch 120 Hz AMOLED, the same size as the Odin 2 Portal’s, with UFS 3.1 storage and Android 15\. Pre-orders open October 22 at 9:30 PM Eastern, and AYN says shipping starts in early November.

October 19: AYN confirms the chip and a bigger battery

AYN’s new [reveal video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVsih273dxY&ref=averagetechnerds.com) fills in part of the spec sheet. It confirms the Odin 3’s Dragonwing Q8 chip, a 9,000mAh battery, 1,000mAh more than the Odin 2 Portal, full-size Hall effect sticks, [slightly bigger than the Odin 2 Portal’s with textured edges](https://www.timeextension.com/news/2026/10/first-ayn-odin-3-portal-trailer-highlights-dragonwing-q8-cpu-larger-grips-and-thumbsticks?ref=averagetechnerds.com), an anti-fingerprint glass front and larger grips on the back. [PC Guide](https://www.pcguide.com/news/ayn-reveals-odin-3-portal-specs-ahead-of-release-including-larger-battery-and-hall-effect-thumbsticks/?ref=averagetechnerds.com) and [Android Authority](https://www.androidauthority.com/ayn-odin-3-portal-specs-3724949/?ref=averagetechnerds.com) also list rear paddles and analog triggers, and PC Guide puts the weight at 450 g. There’s still no screen size, price or release date.

## What are the Odin 3 Portal’s specs?

AYN has confirmed part of the spec sheet: the chip, battery and sticks in the update above. Its first teaser was one render and a tagline. The teaser puts the handheld on a dark background with the AYN logo, the name “Odin 3 Portal” and “2026.10.13 · Coming soon”, and the Instagram caption reads only “Odin3 Portal” with a heart. [Android Authority](https://www.androidauthority.com/ayn-odin-3-portal-confirmed-3722548/?ref=averagetechnerds.com) and [Retro Handhelds](https://retrohandhelds.gg/ayn-odin-3-portal-officially-announced-and-it-looks-almost-identical-to-the-odin-2-portal/?ref=averagetechnerds.com) both link the same image on AYN’s Discord server, so it comes from AYN itself.

If the shape looks familiar, that’s because it’s the Odin 2 Portal’s, seen from the front: the left stick above the D-pad, the face buttons above the right stick, light rings around both sticks and speaker grilles in the lower corners.

## When is it coming out?

AYN hasn’t given a [release date](https://averagetechnerds.com/upcoming-handhelds-2026/) or regions: its October 13 teaser says only “Coming soon”. AYN’s own pattern is the best guide: the Odin 2 Portal and the Odin 3 both opened pre-orders on Indiegogo first, with early-bird prices below retail and shipping planned about two months later.

## Will it be the most powerful large handheld?

Maybe, but so far that’s Android Authority talking. Its headline says the Odin 3 Portal “could be the most powerful large handheld on the market”, a prediction that rests on one word of AYN’s tagline, and its own article admits there’s no word yet on what changes from the Odin 2 Portal or the Odin 3.

The reasoning is AYN’s track record. The Odin 2 Portal kept the Odin 2’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and 8,000mAh battery and moved to a larger 7-inch OLED screen, so Android Authority expects the Odin 3 Portal to take the Odin 3’s Dragonwing Q8 chip the same way. That’s a fair guess from AYN’s history, and AYN’s October 19 video confirmed it.

That chip did lead one retailer’s comparison. In [DROIX’s Odin 3 review](https://droix.net/blogs/ayn-odin3-review/?ref=averagetechnerds.com), the Odin 3 scored 3,123 single-core and 9,819 multi-core in Geekbench 6 and about 2.8 million in AnTuTu, ahead of the AYANEO Pocket S2 in second place. DROIX sells AYN’s handhelds.

## What is the Dragonwing Q8?

It’s the Qualcomm chip in the [Odin 3](https://www.ayntec.com/products/ayn-odin-3?ref=averagetechnerds.com), which AYN lists with two cores at 4.32GHz, six at 3.53GHz and Adreno 830 graphics. Android Authority describes it as essentially a Snapdragon 8 Elite without a modem, the part that connects a phone to cellular networks. More power hasn’t meant better compatibility yet: [Retro Handhelds’ Odin 3 review](https://retrohandhelds.gg/ayn-odin-3-review/?ref=averagetechnerds.com) says the chip is still in a “developmental” phase for PS3 and Switch emulation, with some things not working right away, and suggests an 8 Gen 2 handheld such as the Odin 2 Portal if pure compatibility matters most to you.

The Portal’s memory is still a guess. Retro Handhelds expects up to 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage, one step below the Odin 3’s 24GB top model. None of these figures comes from AYN for the Portal model.

## How do the Odin 2 Portal and Odin 3 compare?

The Odin 2 Portal has the bigger screen, 7 inches to the Odin 3’s 6, and the Odin 3 has the newer everything else. Those are the two handhelds the coverage expects the Odin 3 Portal to combine. AYN rates the [Odin 2 Portal](https://www.ayntec.com/products/odin2-portal?ref=averagetechnerds.com)’s 7-inch 1080p OLED at 120Hz and over 800 nits, while the Odin 3 brings the newer chip, faster 60W charging and Bluetooth 6.0 in a smaller body. Every figure in the table comes from AYN’s own product pages.

Retro Handhelds found the Odin 3’s face buttons much quieter than AYN’s earlier handhelds, though its fan can whine under long, heavy loads, and DROIX measured about 52dB on the Smart fan setting. AYN hasn’t said whether the Portal shares those traits.

## How much will the Odin 3 Portal cost?

AYN’s store lists the Odin 3 Portal at $399 for the Base, $479 for the Pro and $549 for the Max at launch, rising to $419, $499 and $579 afterwards. A 1TB Max joined on October 22 at $669, or $699 afterwards. For comparison, the Odin 3 is listed at $369 for 8GB and 128GB, $469 for 12GB and 256GB and $529 for 16GB and 512GB, with the 24GB Ultra marked sold out at $569\. The Odin 2 Portal starts at $259, but only the black base model is in stock, and every Pro and Max version shows as sold out.

Memory prices point upward too. Android Authority notes the Odin 3 has gone up in price several times as memory costs climbed, and the Portal is built from the same expensive parts. The Odin 3’s base model was $349 at retail when [Indiegogo pre-orders](https://retrohandhelds.gg/ayn-odin-3-pre-orders/?ref=averagetechnerds.com) opened in September 2025, and it’s $369 now. The Odin 2 Portal went the other way, from a $349 retail price at its [October 2024 launch](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Pricing-and-release-date-now-official-for-AYN-Odin2-Portal-OLED-gaming-handheld.905362.0.html?ref=averagetechnerds.com) to $259 today.

## What should you watch for next?

Reviews. The spec sheet and prices are out, so the open questions are the ones only hands-on testing answers: thermals, fan noise and battery life under heavy loads. Pre-orders opened October 22 at 9:30 PM Eastern, and AYN says shipping starts in early November.

## Why this one is different for me

My Odin 2 Portal Max can emulate pretty much anything up to the Switch and the PS3, and its 7-inch OLED screen is just beautiful. I think it’s the perfect size. That’s why I skipped the Odin 3\. It was more powerful, but my Odin 2 Portal Max was already emulating everything I needed, so its smaller screen was just a downgrade to me.

Now, the Odin 3 Portal keeps that same size screen and adds the extra power, so this one becomes an interesting proposition, because this time the extra power may actually be utilized. When I bought my Odin 2 Portal Max, PC gaming on Android was barely in development, and now it’s becoming a more prominent thing. Emulation points the same way. PS4 emulators only run on desktops today, and PS5 emulation is barely getting started even there. Android may follow suit sooner rather than later, and a more powerful handheld will be ready when it does.

If current emulation is all you’re after and you already have an Odin 2 Portal, you may not need to upgrade at all. The Adreno 740 in the Odin 2 Portal is the more mature chip for the custom driver scene right now. But if you want a newer chipset with the power to better run these PC games, one that will mature on the driver side too, then the Odin 3 Portal is the one to watch.

I went ahead and pre-ordered mine: the 1TB Max in Cold Grey.

Bigger screen or more power: which matters more to you in a handheld? I skipped the Odin 3 for its smaller screen. Share your pick.

Based on AYN’s teaser image, its October 19 reveal video, AYN’s store listings and the coverage and reviews linked above, as of October 21, 2026.
